There's no new Pokemon to discover except the obligatory Gen 8 Tie-In, but we won't know its full story until Gen 8 actually comes since it's likely only gonna be seen so you can transfer it to GO.
There's won't be many new locations to explore, if at all.
There's no new challenges to be had other than seeing if you can somehow lose.
The only new characters are likely the Protagonist and Trace, and Trace is yet another "Best Friend who gives you Free Shit and tells you how great you are" except he's also a little fucking pussy.
People hated the Safari Zone because it was the biggest example of Catching Pokemon being an RNG Crapshoot, but now the ENTIRE GAME is a Safari Zone because of Pokemon GO.
On the other hand while not that big of a deal for some, Leaf, a character that we haven't seen in any game since FRLG (14 Years Ago) because it's a Golden Rule that any game where "Kanto's Champion who defeated Team Rocket" appears as an NPC MUST be Red, finally gets her chance to show up again as an alt for Pokemon Trainer in Smash Ultimate. And if Smash Ultimate is to be used as a Base Game for future installments now that absolutely every character is available, it's entirely possible she'll stick around for those, too.
