there are a lot of types of mythical pokemon but they are much smaller in number than normal pokemon. So while they make up a significant chunk of biodiversity in pokemon they make up a tiny portion of pokemon biomass.

Reminder that while they're designated as such in the code, UBs are officially not Legendary Pokemon according to TPCi media. The only sublegends that are officially recognized in gen 7 are Type: Null, Silvally, and the Tapus.

What TPCI recognizes as legendary is pretty inconsistent tho. UB are legendaries but then UB aren't legendaries but then some legendaries are UB too (Cosmog line and Necrozma) but then only a few of these ones are recognized as UB (Necrozma's DW, DM and Ultra forms) but then... It's a clusterfuck

The code has every event only pokemon as mythicals. If your pokemon can only be obtained via event (like Ash-Greninja) or breeding the original event pokemon (like Phione breeding Manaphy) then it's a mythical, even it's not a legendary

TCG only though, and that's to pad out the Ultra Beast decksets (which otherwise would be limited to 10 GX UBs and then varying among them as 11 non-GX ones), and only for the alternate forms, with the base of all of them (i.e. the base species) being a vanilla legend. The point is that none of the UB species are officially designated as Legends. They have their code designated as special due to how limited and unbreedable they were in original SM (i.e. only 1 Nihilego, 2 Xurkitree, etc.).
In everything else, all the UBs (i.e. the 11 of them) are not UBs. At most Necrozma is temporarily a UB, as none of those forms are permanent.

No it isn't, it's recognizing them as a separate group. Ultra Beast is the name of their specific group of Pokemon, in much the same way that Starter Pokemon designates a specific type of Pokemon.

Because that's not a (regular) breeding like Manaphy and even if it was, Solgaleo and Lunala aren't restricted to events (mythical) so Cosmog can't be a mythical
A basic rule you can use to remember the mythicals is that you can't get one of these if you are playing on emulator (without cheating) since you can't activate events nor trade for an event pokemon or its breed

There are way more things supporting their legendary-ness, including the 3 31 ivs, special battle music, and position in the pokedex

Just because the company that made them says they aren't doesn't mean they aren't? The creators themselves went out of their way to say that UBs are just an excuse to make weird stuff and they're just Pokemon as well.
You seem incapable of understanding that you can have a group separate from legendaries that has their own unique traits, such as having a Pokeball specifically only effective on them.
It's physically possible to have something new without it being forced into an existing slot.
Regardless of all this, I have posted official proof, all you have is some fan reasonings and arbitrary stat conventions.

Yes you can. It's an internal gameplay designation never meant to be pried out and thrown to the public, it's purely functional. The other is given permission to be thrown into the public sphere as they please. Also nothing officially given out uses the code designation of sublegend.

Not all Legendary Pokémon created shit. A lot of them are just very rare, like Mew, Cresselia, Heatran and Manaphy. Others simply appear in legends or rumors, like Arcanine, Mewtwo and Genesect.

Speaking of that, I think it was really interesting how the games suggested that some UBs grow.
Like Celesteela lives almost entirely underground until it blasts off once matured, or how Kartana/Nihilego grow as sessile organisms until they reach adulthood.
Would love to see more of that in Pokemon.

Not everything can breed in Pokemon but yeah most of pokemon can canonically breed, it's just that humans doesn't know how to make them breed in sites that aren't their habitats (Latias and Latios are the best evidence).
Some pokemon breed (regardless humans know how to trigger their reproduction or not), others are created "naturaly" and others are created "naturaly" but can also breed like Voltorb, Phantump. There's a lot of examples but the games never shown this (only pokedex entries and similar text only shit) until USUM's Ultra Beast

I really wish they would have done this. Partly because it would have really helped cement the idea that Ultra Beasts weren't legendaries and just weird extradimensional pokemon.

I feel like some of them still work better as standalone mons, but Celesteela and Stakataka fit very well for it. I also think it'd be cool if Buzzwole and Pheromosa got a shared prevo that split into one or the other.

1 UB ARE legendaries
2 Legendaries are literally just weird pokemon so having them to being born in a non special magic-like way wouldn't help to "cement the idea that UB weren't legendaries" (pokemon like Entei can be born just by volcanoes). Or maybe you think it would help because preevolutions... but this gen also included an obvious legendary that evolves so...

Mewtwo has been distinct from the birds since day one retard. In official tournaments and standard Stadium rentals the birds were always allowed, while Mewtwo wasn't.
