Make "Boss" Pokemon who have thousands of health.

For example, add Legendary Pokemon to the story and give them like 1,500 HP, so you would have to use your whole team to beat them and move on. Like in other RPGs.

Difficulty is not the issue, it's pokemon diversity. Past a certain point, trainers should have teams of 4 and up to full team of 6. This would at least make it more interesting. If you want difficulty...go back to your simulators

Non catchable enemies that allow for thing like BST that push or even exceed 1000, broken typings and abilities.

The problem with Nekrozma was that it wasn't only durable, but it would also probably outspeed and one-shot your entire team. That's what makes a cheese strat more necessary, since trying to fight it head on won't work.

Half of the problem with pokemon is that the opponent dies too fast to even make a move because they're limited to the same stats you are. Increasing the HP would give them the ability to survive and actually attack for once.

If it's a "boss" Pokemon you can easily set unique rules for it.

You can make them Immune to Poison, Sleep, Paralysis or whatever, but also give them weaknesses to balance them out, or do stuff like give them 6 moves or more.

You should be able to withstand their attacks anyway. It sounds like you overlevel your pokemon anyway. At that point, it's your own fault.

smarter ai, letting them switch out for type match ups, using smarter teams like rain or hyper aggressive teams
buff shitmons of course
let aces and important npcs use megas and zmoves if they come back

I know, but that goes both ways. You're just making it take more time to defeat the enemy. If you're where you're supposed to be at for the boss, you'll survive it anyway. Other RPGs are like this, too. It's not harder, it just takes more blasted time.

This could be interesting depending on how far they go with it. I wouldn't want something like Black/White where the first gym is basically a forced tutorial, but changing up a gym leader's team based on your starter would be neat. Like if you pick a grass type, the water gym is more likely to have water/flying types rather than the water/ground type they might have otherwise.

I'm saying you increase their HP, but you're not increasing their power. It makes it irrelevant. You'll still beat them eventually and they'll do no more damage to you than anything else does at that level. You're just flipping wasting time.

Pretty much. Totem-style boosts already work. They just need to be sharp boosts to both defenses rather than being to something else or all stats.

Boosting defense makes the pokemon harder to take out, but probably just means you need to use your full team to whittle it down. Boosting offenses or all stats means you're getting outsped and killed unless the thing is frail enough for you to just circumvent that.

Unless you've been playing modern Persona then no. Other RPGs have increased attack, defense and AI over regular enemies and they aren't constrained to the same limitations as you meaning they also get additional turns and special moves.

With that said it only takes a long time if you have no idea how to play the game in most cases.

Anon, if you can outspeed and OHKO on the first turn then the opponent is doing less damage because they aren't going to be hitting you.
If they have the opportunity to survive then you know what's going to happen? They're going to do some damage.

If the boss is too powerful, then it's imbalanced. You would have to either prevent it from damaging you or have something that can take hits more effectively. (more selection forcing) Otherwise, you are not going to survive and you made the game impossible to win.

Are you purposefully not understanding? Currently boss battles go like this:
>you do 80%-100% damage to the enemy in one turn
>enemy gets to hit you 0-2 times depending on speed and how much damage you do
If boss pokemon had more hp it would go like this:
>you do only 30%-40% to the enemy in one turn
>enemy therefore gets to hit you 2-4 times
Even if the enemy doesn't do any more damage than they do now, having more health let's them hit you more which makes them harder to beat

Remember what I said before?

Let me guess, you go full physical attack and rush down with the attack button without learning anything else or even using the guard button.
