First off Pokeathlon murders your touchscreen, I feel bad for anyone who owned a first-run DS and got HGSS.
Second, the minigames varied wildly in complexity. Some like Tile Smash and
Hurdle Jump are really simple while Goal Roll and Snowball Fight require a lot more actions.
Third, the novelty wears off. You might play enough to get some medalists or break the records, but I'll never see myself getting the plaque for winning 100 events or that nonsense.
It was a great addition to the game but it's not the be-all end-all of pokemon minigames.
