I have the gen 1 and 2 Pokemon handbooks somewhere in my house, and while I havent opened either in many years I can still confirm from the countless autism hours I spent reading them back then that Slugma is definitely in gen 2

Been playing ever since GSC. 90% of my favorite mons come from Johto.
I thought Skarmory, Slugma's line, and Houndoor's line were all gen III. It's not underage faggotry or retardation, it's just that they were rare mons and/or not very memorable the few times they did appear.

In general both Johto and RSE Hoenn did a horrible job at showcasing their dex. If it wasn't for the anime I would've never known things like Yanma, Corphish, Chimecho and Bagon were even a thing. That may be why for DPPt Gamefreak forced you to see all the pokes on the dex to access the postgame

Nugens make mon catching relatively easy. Gentoo grabbed you by the balls, forced you to play the game constantly, and dared you to catch em all.

Corphish and Bagon at least hint at their existence with members of the Elite 4 having their evolved forms. Chimeco was pretty dumb though. I don't think anyone uses it. Not even any of the random trainers in the psychic gym.

This board has filled up with a lot of people who started with Gen 3 as their first game, so it makes sense why a lot of them see some of the Johto Pokemon as Hoenn Pokemon.
And considering Gen 3 is my least favorite, it keeps me from wanting to come here for more than 5 minutes at a time.

Funny story, my friends and I when we were kids believed Larvitar evolved into Lugia if it reached level 100, so we started taking turns taking 1 cartridge and passing it around leveling him, one day I would have it, the other day another dude and so on.
Then it evolved into Pupitar we got really excited because we thought "oh shit its gonna pull a butterfree! gonna grow wings and everything!". That obviously didn't happen when it evolved Tyranitar but we still kept going.

Man we were dumb.

It’s because the mon distribution in GSC was so retarded and shitty that there were over a dozen Gen 2 mons that you would probably never see, as they were limited to a small number of areas which were locked until post-game.

I had no idea that Togetic existed until fucking Emerald. I boxed Togepi pretty early in g/s/c and never saw it evolve. I don't think any trainers had one. I finally saw it for the first time in the Battle Factory, and my first thought was that it was a special pokemon you got by breeding Latios and Latias.

You're probably right. Right now I'm replaying HG, and was wondering why I couldn't find Slugma, even though it's so common in emerald. I ended up thinking it was a gen 3 pokémon, but alas, my mistake. Hate the fact that Johto introduced Blissey, Kingdra, etc. but you can only get those by going to Kanto first

I can tell you with 100% certainty that Sulgma, Skarmory, Sunflora, Houndoor and whatever else people often mistake for Gen 3 are Gen 2 pokemon.
