Clefairy is very much Don Patch, Red is Beauty/Gasser combined and Pikachu is more...Gasser I guess? I mean Pikachu is pretty much the straight man of the group but it can still do some dumb shit. It doesn't talk either.
There's also Tyrogue but he was even more straight man then Pikachu. He was alright though, its not at boring as I make it seem.
This is very much Bobobo meets Dragon Ball. It has the exact same sense of humor (all be it more crudely) and the exact same slapstick. In the first few manga where it took place in Kanto/Johto there was a coherent story going on while they threw a ton of jokes at you. It was kind of like Bobobo in that regard.
But later, when the story took place in Hoenn, Sinnoh, Johto again, Unova, Kalos and I guess now Alola, the story literally does not matter. Put them in any specific place and they'll make a punchline out of it.
I remember there was a chapter about a literal shitcontest and Pikachu used his own shit to learn surf so he can win the contest, shit like that. If I can find something I'll scan and post it.
