IMHO, Gens III and IV as a whole (I'll include HGSS along with Platinum) were the PEAK of the franchise. DPPt and HGSS (and ORAS, but as a remake of Gen III they're an outlier enough not to count) I haven't personally enjoyed a Pokemon game enough to invest hundreds of hours into or replay over and over again. I've capped Diamond, Ruby, Emerald, OmegaRuby and HeartGold all at 999 hours, I've replayed the other games in those Gens countless times, etc.
Gen V and onward aren't BAD. But now that I think about it, I've realized that ever since BW I haven't actually enjoyed a Pokemon games AS much as before. BW, BW2, XY, and SuMo I have only picked up on release, played through once to completion, and then put down and did not ever return to. I've only played White once. And X. I didn't even buy Ultra Sun/Moon because Moon felt so mediocre.
Damn.
