>>35950889If you needed an early Fire type, Emboar was a lot better. Petlil or even Cottonee is better for a grass type overall. Both get more status moves, and while Cottonee is stuck as more of a supporting mon, Liligant gets Own Tempo with Petal Dance, Quiver Dance, and Sleep Powder. That's much better than the sort of Coil/Growth stuff Serperior has to work with.
Really, all of the Unova starters are pretty lackluster, but Emboar is the most useful for ingame at least.
