They often, like most adults, only have time for people who are their spouses/spouse opportunities so the (usually) gay ones incorrectly think the same of everyone even though most of the places in media places are somewhat idyllic.
Thus seeing now adult Red and Green in a tropical paradise makes them think lovers instead of friendly rivals.
And it's not just media but real life too. People have asked the same of me and my brother. We do the grocery shopping together since he's living at my place but they see adults and think couple. They're idiots.
