LGPE are the worst mainline games ever. They deserve spin off level sales. As in, only around 1 million.

Not only did they directly state they were main series but Ishihara outright compared them to X/Y and S/M when asked:

They've started calling the "traditional" pokémon games made by them as core games though anon. They're mainline as they're set in the same region GF conceived, but it's quite clear GF are intending these to be their own separate series of games, spin-offs in all but name (given how it's not even a retelling of Yellow, but instead loosely inspired by it and the GO mechanics being the focal point instead of trad battling to catch pokés).

Keep up kid, Gen ViII and those that came before it are now being called Core. LGEP ARE spin-offs, but seeing as how it's Game Freak making them (using a region they originally created, no less) and not some literal who studio under direction of TPCi, they're allowed to call them whatever they wish.
But don't sit there and try to blow smoke up my arse, when it's blindingly obvious that LGEP aren't what you think. Also:

Mainline/Core = RBGY, GSC, RSE, FRLG, DPPt, HGSS, BW, B2W2, XY, ORAS, SM, USUM, LGPE

Spin off = Every single other pokemon game.

If they're the same thing, why are GF suddenly calling Gen VIII core and making pains to separate LGEP from Gen VIIl? They should all be called the same thing by your reasoning. Yet GF are STILL doubling-down on the Core/Mainline distinction, almost as if they don't see LGEP as being an equal of the paired core games they released already...

Different words can have the same meaning. They also called LGPE "main series" as well as "mainline". They mean the same thing. As does core. They say LGPE are the "next entry into the mainline series of pokemon rpgs". Gamefreak only has 1 line of pokemon rpgs. LGPE was made by gamefreak and is said to be the next part of their pokemon rpgs. As in the paired rpg games for handhelds.

I don't think they ever said that. Regardless, LGPE not being the game they were talking about in the 2017 e3, does not mean that it itself is not a core/mainline game. Seeing as they've already said that it is.
