POKEMON COMPANY’S NET PROFIT DROPS, STILL AT US$80.8 MILLION LAST YEAR

According to a release in the Japanese government’s Official Gazette, The Pokemon Company saw net profit reach US$80.8 million in its 20th fiscal year – which ended on February 28, 2018.
While this is a handsome number, it’s also a big drop when compared to the previous fiscal that ended with a US$145.6 million profit, the highest in the company’s history.
That record number was driven by the successful releases of Pokemon Go on mobile (for which The Pokemon Go gets an undisclosed cut) as well as Pokemon Sun/Moon for 3DS.
In the 20th fiscal, ongoing sales from Pokemon Go and Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon’s release in November 2017 had much less impact on net profit (no revenue data are provided by the gazette).
Still, US$80.8 million marks the second highest net profit in The Pokemon Company’s history.
In fact, it’s almost as much as all net profits from fiscal 1-18 combined.
