Why not do this? Why rush USUM out in one year when they must have been working on 4 games at once?

They still could have done everything so much better with just the time they had. Even for a small studio like Game Freak these tiny additions are embarassing. And the worst part is put out marketing like "Ultra Changes". If you do a shit job, at least be subtle about it.

Yeah, even a year should have been plenty of time to add way more than they did. Look how many games get yearly releases and are much better.

Gamefreak thinks they need to staff like a tiny indie studio, but they must have been working on USUM alongside giga wrecker, LGPE, and AT LEAST the planning stages of gen 8. And even if Gamefreak didn't develop spinoffs like Quest, they must have at least some input I'm guessing

I swear they must have had interns working on USUM. Apparently as of 2018 they only have 143 developers according to wikipedia and I doubt those are all game developers
