This is off a base 159 sp.atk and is also hitting on the weaker defensive side.
You are an idiot if you think that just because it has an 81 attack stat it isn't broken. If brave bird had a BP of 90-85 then it would have been slightly more balanced but priority healing on top of that is what made it unreasonably good.

A nerf happened in Gen 7 where Gale Wings would only work with 100% HP, which also led to people thinking that midday form Lycanroc was going to be OU material because muh Accelerock which would've fucked over Talonflame.

They're kinda shitty even without Talonflame though. And bugs being shat on isn't really a big loss since I'm not a bugfag and Volcarona isn't my waifu.

Talonflame wasn't even all that great even at its peak. Best results I even got out of it was as a stallbreaker since it shit on Clefable so astronomically hard. Choice Band set was predictable and easy to counter, Bulk up was sorta shitty, Swords Dance had legs but to me at least it just seemed like the same sort of thing as Charizard-X since they both get scary fast and powerful after one boost, take a lot of recoil, and are countered by generally the same stuff, so it wasn't that hard to prepare for/play around. Stallbreaker with Taunt fucked up those gay ass stall teams, though, so Talonflame gets credit for that in my book.

I’ve never really run actual top-tier mons anyways and instead relied on jank like the Great Wall of Shuckle, so it’s really not my place to comment.

Talonflame reminds me that I feel like Stealth Rock is a little bit TOO dominant in the metagame, though. Maybe it’d be better if there were more type variants of it (but you can only have one up, it’d be chaos if you could have 18 flavours of Stealth Rock up at once) and more ways to counter entry traps.

If I had to choose, I would’ve had Gale Wings work from 50% or so HP upwards instead of having to have a completely full tank of gas to activate correctly.

If Gale Wings was given to something like Staraptor, it would probably be actually scary.
But it wasn't. It was something that had love attack and high speed. Something that really doesn't need priority. If anything Talonlame overhere should of gotten a buff instead.

It had checks and counters, absolutely but the fact was that it was the absolute best late game win condition on any matchup, an amazing revenge killer and also a huge pain in VGC where it'd set up Tailwind any time it wanted and burn any slower physical attacker, not to mention it could still revenge kill anything that set up here as well.
Most of its checks also got worn out very easily and downright lost to certain sets too, I ran Slowbro on all my teams to beat it and it could still lose to the spdef taunt+wisp/toxic set, people who defend this cunt know nothing about balance.

Aside from some Scarfers, a few priority abusers, and dragon dancers, Swellow could pretty much beat all the matche-up Talonflame could and more. The only thing it couldn't do was kill some Dragon Dancers. Yet one was NU and the other has sub 1100 shitter begging for it to be banned.

Stop with this retarded false equivalency, Swellow is Swellow, Talonflame was Talonflame. Swellow doesn't have Swords Dance, WoW and Taunt, and even if it did it has much worse STAB combination which doesn't let it break past steel types, and even then if had all of that, it STILL doesn't have Gale Wings, which allowed it to move before anything that didn't have espeed or was +1 speed with priority.
