If LGEP is any metric (along with GO's XL/XS ratings for individual 'mons), I'd say they'll be trying to do that with Gen VIII's displays.

The models are actually stored in accurate sizes down to the centimeter. They did the normalized scaling to give it a look similar to the 2D games where the sprites weren't to scale.
