as far as i'm concerned more Shadow Pokemon is always a good thing. while much of the point of Colosseum is to adapt to a limited pool of semi-missable monsters, some of these, like Castform and Kecleon, also had potential to be pretty interesting in the game's format.

the biggest failing of Colosseum (and XD) is that Shadow Pokemon don't scale at the same rate as trainers' other Pokemon do, so pretty much after the fucking beastly Entei freshly caught Shadow Pokemon don't really cut it.

Plusle is secret OP in that game, since he counts as traded he gets XP so ungodly fast that he can catch up and outlevel shit, give him rain dance and pair him with Suicune and you can surf/thunder everything like kings.

I even tried with 50-51 again (because I am dense like that, this is a kids game right?) and still got wasted. Then I give in and get to 55-56 and breeze through it.

The game really needed HMs, all the TMs, and really, being able to transfer from the start. That's also an issue I have with it.

Colosseum's fatal flaw comes in the fact that almost every Pokemon that exists is terrible, yet they still have a few actually decent mons mixed in the horde of crap, which end up being the only ones that get used. So the entire game you'll be banking on Feraligatr, the legendary beasts, or Ampharos and Espeon if you're not willing to use legendaries. Arguably Skiploom if you need to spam statuses to catch mons.
There's no reason you should ever want to use a Slugma or any of the other Johto shitmons. It takes a while to de-shadow (grind) a new addition to your team and the payoff is almost never worth it.

Magcargo is absolutely a sleeper in the early game, and the work required to use him well from Slugma to reach that point feels sorta like training your Magikarp into Gyarados.

If the entire lineup is garbage, then most people will naturally be complacent with the few good mons that exist. Gale of Darkness is the better game because you actually have options to pick from, and the grind is much less tedious so even bad mons can get use.

The lineup progressively gets better in Gale, Colosseum's stays terrible. Unless early Ralts sounds the same as midgame Ledian.
There's still plenty of duds in between, but the fact that trainers have more than 1 shadow mon is a huge improvement too.

Gale of Darkness is worse, since there's a stretch of the game at the beginning where you only have your starter and the Teddiursa (and possibly 1-2 other shitmons). By the time you're able to start building an actual team, the starter and Teddiursa are so ridiculously overleveled that it's hard to train anything up.

It seemed like the opposite. Gale of Darkness had better distribution because lots of early shadow pokemon take investment in order to fulfill their potential while later shadow pokemon were inherently more powerful. However, I could see some disappointment since I lot of high-tier fully evolved pokemon are only available for capture in the final level. Still, there are wild pokemon available to fulfill other niches.

By the way, did anyone else feel that Zaprong was way too good? He was very fun to use but I found him overleveling and easily sweeping teams.

Your starter Pokemon are Espeon's 130 Special Attack/110 Speed and Umbreon's 95/110/130 Defenses.
Plusle with Minum's Helping Hand would be hitting for roughly the same as Espeon using its actual STAB moves.

There are multiple pokemon with stupidly low catch rates, like 3% (metagross) or suicune and raikou. You literally have to win the fucing lottery to catch them all in the same game without having to reload several times. Again, why do you people lie? I doubt you seriously caught everything at first try like you claim, unless you have incredible luck.

Just have bulky Pokémon, and a shit ton of ultra balls. It’s not like they are using crazy advanced tactics against you either. Late game they barley even use recoil moves anyway.
