Ran out of budget and figured since Yokai Watch was killing Pokemon for a slow period of time it's better to copy the shit artstyle.

Are you new? Ash already gets redesigned so he doesn't look out of place alongside the new characters.

In this case, he was redesigned to fit in with Lillie and the other Sun/Moon characters.
