How is the availability of Kanto pokemon in Sun and Moon? How early can I catch a Kanto pokemon to exchange my starter with?

Are kanto pokemon spread out trough the game or mostly postgame?

You should be able to get Caterpie, Alolan Rattata, and maybe Pikachu on route 1. Butterfree alone would probably suffice for the first island, and things will open up fairly quickly anyway. The Alola dex has a lot of pokemon in it.

First 2 routes: Caterprie, (Alolan) Rattata, Pichu is avaliable, but only calls S.O.S. Pikachu after your first trial.

Third Route: Slowpoke

First city: Magnemite, abra, more slowpoke, alolan meowth.

Before trial: Spearow, ekans, ghastly, zubat.

Hell, I'm starting to hate gen1 by now just by making this list.

Alola having Kanto mons isn’t so bad, but I’d like it if the next region had few to none, due to being far away from Japan.

Alola does have a disproportionate number of Kanto mons. I think it's about a third of the dex, and double what the other gens get.

It'd be neat if we got another region in the Americas with more Unova mons, or one in Europe with stuff from Kalos

If that's your only issue with the game, then, don't worry. This game is literally Kanto 2.0 and in the Alola dex there are more kantomon than Alolamon anyway.

It feels significantly better in USUM. While it adds yet more Kanto mons, the majority of the additions are from gens 5 and 6. This plus the added gen 2 and 3 mons suddenly make it feel way more balanced.
