>>35990298It is alchemy, but the whole deal with the magnum opus is that it also represents weird Hermetic enlightenment as well. Confronting the darkness within one's soul (Nigredo/Spiritual death/Necrozma), the process of washing away impurities within (Albedo/purification/Necrozma's parasitic forms), the awakening of a greater inherent power instead of relying on borrowed "light" (citrinitas/"solar" awakening/Ultra Necrozma), and ultimately the realization of the whole, perfected self (Rubedo). The last part is technically referenced via Solgaleo and Lunala's shinies, but the fact that Necrozma is "entrusted" to the player as it finds comfort in our z crystals (which are supposedly parts of Necrozma's original body) also fits.
There's more symbolism with Cosmog's line (cosmog being the prime material used to create the stone for one), but let's not ramble.
Lucifer is also a reasonable association due to Necrozma being well... a fallen light, but then that also deals with similar spiritual thenes.
Basically, Necrozma is based on old European shit that has religion, science, psychology, and philosophy all in one horrific orgy.
