I unironically like it for the story and characters just because playing AS was like how I always imagined it back during Sapphire 13 years ago.
Team Magma/Aqua now have unique characteristics, Archie/Maxie are more fleshed out and have actual relations with their admins, your relationship with your rival is probably the clostest will ever get to a romantic subplot, Wally was more developed and everyone of these characters has a fully realized character arc.
It all really encapsulates how I and my friends imagined our Hoenn adventures as children.
I won't ignore the obvious shortcomings and missing content however, they are really telling of GameFreaks's laziness. But still for what it's worth I enjoy the main campaign of ORAS and honestly think they're best out of all the 3DS entries.
