You kind of recommended Smeargle.
Just no. It is extremely bad ingame. You said to avoid Azumarill, but it is way better than Smeargle. Smeargle has about half the stats of Azumarill except speed. It's just too weak and fragile. The gimmick isn't worth it against AI.

Strange, cause I had silver. It’s nostalgia but not the full force. Such an amazing sequel, and probably why every new game is disappointing to some degree (except the remakes). Only thing wrong was that there weren’t enough Johto mons available pre E4 (especially firemons(this is why you choose Cyndaquil)) and the leveling curve between Clair and the E4. Also gorgeous art. Still my favorite game visually.

you can't put difficulty in a pokemon games in a graph because it always varies from person to person since it depends on each player's team.
For example i had much more trouble with Whitney because half of my team was male and i couldn't be asked to find and train a female Geodude just for one battle but Lance was a total breeze because at that point i had a Amphy Lapras combo

For the love of God, please never use that shitty method of making 4:3 into 16:9 ever again. It just does not work for the blocky graphics of a gameboy game and having huge out of focus shit at the sides of the screen is distracting as hell. Please just use black space next time.

Still, it’s a good general graph. Azalea City Rival, Whitney, Morty (remake), Clair, Red, and maybe Lance and Blue tend to be the major difficultly sure spikes for most people.
