what if you HAVE to have 6 pokemon to challenge a gym?
like there's no type advantage requirement, you just need 6 so you can be on even terms with the leader, and gym trainers carry more than the average trainer

E4 & Villain Team Leader: 5 Pokemon
Champ & End Game Rival: 6 Pokemon

Sounds closer to Emerald which had 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 4, 5 for the gym leaders, 5 for the Elite Four, and 6 for the champion.

Ultra kind of differentiated them. All of their Pokemon had at least one stat with 30 ivs. Most of them had at least two stats with 30 ivs and 15 for the rest.

There's no point in having more than 3 or 4 of it's just more of the same. It only adds tedium as opposed to difficulty.
