The MC is a major bitch and literally can't handle the experience of losing. Rather than suffer the humiliation of defeat they instead repress all memories of the event and run on autopilot to the last pokecenter they went too.

It would probably be similiar to the Anime in that when one side loses the other one stops and lets the other side leave in relative peace (Maybe they steal something at most but do not kill/maim people)
