Let me say this. Shin Megami Tensei is a JRPG series of games where you survive in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo after God decides to wipe the Earth clean with ICBMs as demons and angels go wild and kill humans without mercy. Surviving humans ally themselves with demons ala Pokémon and eventually come to take sides (typically Law, Neutral, Chaos, and some other routes that vary from game to game). You come into conflicts with your friends as your ideals and theirs split you apart (or you may end up as allies depending on your route). The difficulty is pretty high and you will die often. It's not unfair for the most part and you can win if you're willing to make sacrifices like your demons. In that regard, you're encouraged to not grow attached to them.
Fire Emblem is a medieval SRPG series where its lowest difficulty is "Normal" and that can still be difficult to some people. You get a large cast of characters you recruit in each game as you participate in strategic battles in army campaigns while the characters all grow in ways you can (mostly) control. Permadeath is a thing, meaning if a character dies on the battlefield, they stay dead for the rest of the game.
In 2013, "Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem" was announced. It sounded like a hardcore RPG fan's wet dream. Little things mentioned were that Fire Emblem characters would be in modern times, like a Pegasus on the Shibuya 109 building. Fast forward 2 years, and it turns out it got turned into a JRPG about idols.
