So, for example, if you have a pokemon that's normally red, and some of the color variants are more orange, then breeding it with something orange is more likely to give you an orange variant. But at the same time, you could also just catch an orange one normally, it'd just be more rare.
That's the most I'd want to see with any sort of crossbreeding mechanic.
