Also to be factored is that none of Gen 7's Pokemon appear to have any long-lasting popularity aside from Mimikyu and Primarina, as aside from them, the rest are being artificially propelled exclusively via the anime.
Rowlet's lacking in move potential and will be irrelevant when Gen 8's Anime begins, Decidueye isn't liked enough by Japan to be a substitute (plus it'd conflict with Pokken), Primarina would be difficult to work with, Carrot Doggo's going to drop into irrelevancy as soon as Gen 8's Anime begins, Zeraora isn't well-received enough to consider picking, and Alolan Vulpix is already a Poke Ball Pokemon.
It's more likely that Pokemon WON'T be getting any Newcomers at launch, given the unfortunate timing of being on the ass end of Gen 7 but nowhere near the point where a Gen 8 Pokemon can be chosen until DLC is factored.
