Hypno is in the unfortunate place of being one of the Gen 1 psychics that has a fairly balanced statline. It doesn't have starmie's amazing speed or slowbro's defense, and it doesn't have the sky-high special of alakazam. It's in a weird place of having decent physical stats but not having much to do with them. It can use headbutt better but that's about it.

It's probably just meant to be an alternative to Abra that's easier to catch and doesn't require trading to reach its full potential

Yeah. It wasn't that great before it, but it lost a lot of special attack in the process. Maybe if Hypnosis was more like Spore and it had it exclusively, it'd have something, but as it is now I just feel bad for Hypno

I like Drowzee because it reminds me of faceless fat old man doujins and lately I've been relating too much with those despite looking nothing like them and instead being a spineless, unmotivated coward. I like Drowzee is what I am saying, but Hypno is cool too.

Jynx isn’t that bad. Did a crystal run with one I raised from the odd egg and I swept people. Competitive is a different story.

Those two needed their own signature buffing item just like Twisted Spoon should have been Abra's line gimmick.
At least 100 more mons should get signature items in general, wonder if it will ever be a new gen gimmick, not necessary broken like Thick Bone buffs but still there to be useful.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon for example had multiple of those.
