This, when the average speed of the fully evolved pokemon of the shittiest defensive type is 76 you know there is a problem.
There are only 5 ice type pokemon with a speed over 100: Sneasel, Weavile, Alola Ninetales, Frosslass and Cryogonal

Except average attacking stats across ice is pretty average, ice's attacking moves are average, and it's type coverage is good, but not better than something like ground

Wouldn't surprise me somebody at Game Freak has water as his favorite type and just wanted ice created to make water better.

Remove water resistance to ice. Maybe not a grass resistance because grass is already shit offensively but yes a fairy resistance would be cool and maybe a dragon one.

Also why is Game Freak so scared to buff ice. They probably know there is a problem because they introduced Freeze-Dry to make ice pokemon able to deal with water type, and Aurora veil to mitigate the fact that ice had a lot of weaknesses. But they always pussy out: freeze dry is only 70 bp so in most case it will be worst than ice beam and running both make you lose one move slot and aurora veil needing hail make it useless except for Alola ninetales.

Flying would be pretty minor but would still help. Ground or Dragon would be bigger resistances overall and would both make sense.

What would also be nice is if Water didn't resist Ice, so that Water/Ice types actually had more benefit to their secondary typing.

Because power creep fucked them in the ass. They weren’t terribly bad in gen 3 but then gen 4’s power creep and stealth rocks fucked them over for good. Fairy was pretty much the final nail in the coffin and pretty much proved that Gamefreak would rather create a new type for marketing purposes rather than rebalance existing types.

Grass is good defensively, it resists Ground and electric, two otherwise powerful offensive types. It has an awesome niche. Remember, Tangrowth is in smogon's OU as one of the VERY few non-legendary pokemon to be useful in the tier. And it's mono-grass. It's a good typing.

No, the actual shittiest type is Bug (lots of weaknesses and everyone resists their attacks), and it should be. Fuck bugs. If it were up to me they'd be even shittier and more useless.

Stop with this redistribution meme. Most Water-types simply don’t use Ice Beam anymore. You’re far more likely to find Water-types using Ice Punch which is generally given to things with fists regardless. And even above that, they all prefer using Scald when possible.

Make Ice resist Ground, since Ice freezes the Ground around itself limiting the shockwaves of Earthquakes, as well as any burrowing.
Make Ice be immune to itself, since half of the Ice mons have Ice incorporated in their anatomy and thus wouldn't be affected by Cold, and because Ice is a good offensive type, but shit defensively.
Make Water attacks become Ice-type during Hail because cold freezes water, and because these changes would make Ice-types good switch-ins against Water-types during Hail.

It’s a meme because it doesn’t actually do anything beyond nerf shit-tier Water-types. Most Water-types don’t use Ice Beam anymore because they’re either physical or prefer other moves over it. This has been said so damn often that I’m confused as to why you people keep bringing it up.

Go through every usage tier in smogon and look at what Water-types use Ice Beam. It’s not common anymore and you’re much more likely to see physical Water-types using Ice Punch or Ice Fang if they have it, and those two moves have more generic distribution than anything else.

My point is that it’s a pointless option and that you’d get more mileage buffing Freeze Dry and boosting its distribution to every Ice-type (which should’ve been done in the fucking first place). fuck if you’re going to buff Ice-types don’t go the route that offers the least change and doesn’t address any of their actual problems.
