played pokemon blue as a kid and quit when I grew of it and started playing football, but I love pokemon go on my phone

excited to play let's go since it's like a mix of both

how come so many people here seem so negative towards let's go?

Too easy.
Another gen 1 remake.
No wild Pokémon battles.
Low quality 3DS models and bog standard animations even though Pokémon Battle Revolution existed on the Wii twelve whole years ago and the Switch is unfathomably more powerful than that console.
Most importantly: No Blue/Gary.

Release too early, lack of basic features (trading, battling) and too many bugs that made the game unplayable since day 1.
Niantic isn't fixing that anytime soon, so people moved on over months and months of bullshit, including official events an people losing plenty of money on that.
If you want exercise + Pokémon, grab a Pokewalker and Heart Gold/Soul Silver. It will be a bit on the expensive side now, but you only pay once for a full game instead of buying scams on Go.

I mean, the answer is pretty clear in your own post. It's only good for people like you who only like Go and/or have a barebones experience with the games.
