About to start playing this. Is it worth picking your starter based on its evolution. I've heard you can only evolve in the postgame. How big is the postgame?
Also, I plan to recruit every Pokemon. Are there really less than 150 Pokemon available?

Evolving does nothing for your stats. Axew's ability changes when it evolves which actually makes it worse

I was more curious about how long will I be able to play in evolved form. I'm definitely picking Snivy but I'm not sure if I prefer Oshawott or Pikachu as my partner. The latter evolves into Raichu which I would love to use.

Nah. You're going to spend the entire story as your starter, and you're going to be leveled enough once you've finished that evolving won't make a difference.

As most PMD.
Spoiler aheadSuper let you evolve for a short while directly to your last evolution, but only for like 2 fights and a dungeon, for story reasons, and in the end you still need to finish the main game to really evolve

No but seriously, this game has little to no postgame other than one extra mission, i would recommend to just play this game for the main story and then just go directly to super for the improved gameplay

Yes, they kinda rushed this game really hard and put into it just enough content as to be ''finished'', just so they could then keep making assets for the next PMD, since making 650 models was going to take too much time
even with all of those gameplay flaws and nonexistent postgame, i still somehow think this game has more variety than super in content, which i find to be badly lacking in things to do outside of dungeon exploring

No, nor i have seen anyone try to mod it so the text can go faster, though eventually you get used to it

Also, is recruiting all those Pokemon time-consuming? It would give me at least one reason to pick one Pokemon since I love its evolution.

didn't bother with the DLC, but no, it isn't necessary, from the little that i remember, they were just dungeon for getting easy cash/rare items, recruiting the starters, and a few challenge dungeons, none of them is really necessary because the game is already kinda easy enough without them

Kinda, but this game has the minccino gift shop, which is a place were you can make gifts out of items that can be used to recruit a specific pokemon or a pokemon of X typing, which can make recruiting pokemon much easier

Gates has no quiz, and the quiz in Super is for the newer mon but you still get to choose who you want to be since they're too many mon for a proper quiz

Don't play this, play Super. It has much better mechanics and you can get every Pokemon up to Gen 6

Play GTI first and then play Super.
GTI is good enough that it's worth playing, and Super is an improvement. If you play GTI first, you can enjoy it for what it is before playing what it should have been.
