it isn't, actually. the decision to make Wind attacks Flying Type was pretty consistently not a thing until gen 2, because Razor Wind wasn't Flying Type either (and never ended up being changed, likely because they literally forgot it existed since it was completely unavailable in gen 2 without the time capsule)

These kids can work it out, too, they're just used to being able to ask the internet for help rather than stumbling around blindly and working things out empirically.
All of those questions other than the 'level 11' question are entirely legitimate, anyway. As """cool""" as it might be to make fun of literal children for not being as wise and capable as you are at playing a toy, you've found some pretty shitty examples.

I doubt that was the reason. Type advantages pretty much don't exist until Pewter Gym unless you happen to get a Spearow or Male Nidoran. That was probably a very poorly intentional design decision .

Part of it is gen 1's retarded design while part of it is kids being used to tutorials and hand holding in at the very least the beginning of the game. I hate gen 1 because you can't see what type of move or what bp or acc in battle, that among other things is why gen 1 and 2 are garbage. Also, dark type prior to gen 4 is a joke.
>Hurr durr let's make a type that counters psychic special attacking and let's make the moves contact moves. While we are at it, let's make all the dark types post game except the eeveelution.

i know types don't mean anything anymore in NuPokemon where there's a million throwaway dark, steel, and dragon pokemon, but the relative unavailability of dark pokemon was part of what made them appealing.

In all fairness though, Kanto is objectively one of the hardest region, alongside sinnoh and unova. Does that mean I think it should be dumbed down? No, I'm just saying Kanto wasn't already literally baby tier easy.

The Flying type was always retarded. Wind is frequently its own element in RPGs, but in Pokemon the wind attacks were all Normal type, while attacks that involved pecking or hitting with wings are "Flying" type? If anything THOSE should be Normal type, since they just involve hitting the opponent.

Especially Peck, which is "tsutsuku" in Japanese, which just means to poke with something, and is learned by a bunch of random Pokemon that use their horn to perform the move. It has dick all to do with flying.

however nitpicking about peck is a little silly when you consider how many things are just "hitting the opponent" but are other types "just because" (Bone Club, Bonemerang, Rollout, Dive, Power Whip, Head Smash, Aqua Jet, Accelrock come to mind off the top of my head)

Aqua Jet is legit enough because the user covers himself with water before dashing at the opponent, so the water would logically add or subtract damage. As far as physical Water moves go, it's probably the most sensible one.

In 2002? Really??

My family had internet in 1999. While I do remember there being plenty of Pokemon websites, I don't remember many of them having walkthroughs. I was still able to figure out how to progress through the game without one though. I do remember being hung up after Celadon City because I couldn't figure out I was supposed to buy the guards at Saffron City a drink. Fortunately the games were popular at the time and a friend told me what to do.

How goes Unova fit into this? Not shitting on Gen V, it's just a pretty linear region. Kanto is without a doubt the hardest, Sinnoh is close in challenge, I might put Hoenn in third just cuz the sea exploration might be hard for kids.

My honest opinion on LGPE is that it feels like they're treating kids today as if they're completely braindead. Making a game aimed towards casual play shouldn't mean you make a boss battle tell you how to beat them.

Navigation I guess. Say you've never played a pokemon game in your life and you get to rock tunnel. Bam your literally stuck in the dark. Although I'm sure there's some npcs that mention flash, and where to find it.

I wasn’t even particularly smart for my age. Lgpe is incredibly stripped down to nothing but a stroll in the park, where no comprehension or retention needs to be developed.

Blue and 7 taught me to read and strategize, to read between the lines and pay attention. There’s nothing wrong with some difficulty holy shit.

I admit I will probably play lgpe because I’m not in the game for a story experience personally. Not many games are that challenging as an adult anyways. I just want to play because it’s another option, another way to play Pokémon without having to invest too much time into a game like SM/USUM. At least the handholding in lgpe is shallow. Nothing is worse than handholding that takes a shit ton of time to get through.

I also don’t mind how basic they made the stats honestly. I’m a karenfag but it allows for a meta of its own so some shitmon are viable on this platform. In some ways it brings more fairness.

Caves in general aren't balanced well in Gen I, lots of trainers in addition to lots of wrong paths you can take. I find when I replay Mt. Moon even going directly for the exit I can run out of healing items and almost die.

That and just more puzzles in the overworld, figuring out getting past the guards, backtracking to the earlier routes to get the items you need to progress, the Safari Zone stuff, Silph Co, etc.
