OK, so basically this thread is about sharing your ideas of a trainer, kinda like the OC thread but with in-game trainers, like NPCs and Gym Leaders and shit.

Good idea for a thread, OP.

I'd like to see an older character starting out on a Pokemon journey. Maybe one of the friend/companion side characters could be the player's quirky grandma or something. I picture her wearing sunglasses and hitting pedestrians with a walking stick. Then when the player meets up with her, she's a surprisingly good trainer and doesn't go easy on you, but she is still ultra sweet and concerned for you.

This dude's an Ace Trainer that brags about his team being able to hit anything thanks to Aerial Ace and No Guard, and says he has a free TM is you take on every trainer in the route. You come back and he battles you.

How about a 'rival' npc? Not an actual, formal rival, but a reocurring route npc that shows up several times across the game. Not so much that you expect them to show up every route, but juuust scarcely enough for an effective "what do you mean you don't remember me??" gag up until Victory Road.

Bonus points, give them the largest amount of teams as a random opponent in a Battle Facility/Frontier

I actually like that idea quite a bit, hell I was thinking of something like that for an entomologist (Bug specialist) character, and he occasionally teams up with his pal, a lepidopterist (Uses butterfly mons, Quiver Dance shenanigans).

here's another quick idea for a rock type gym leader, he's like an early-ish game gym leader

He's actually the owner of a huge library, so huge in fact that it's the Gym in the form of a maze! And the Leader himself is a major bookworm and is rather small-lookin' contrasting what you'd expect from a Rock specialist.
Apparently, his Gym also somehow has a constant Terrain effect that strengthens Rock moves and weakens Ground moves. Also, certain attacks can cause bookshelves to fall and deal extra Normal damage.

His Trainer class is "Librarian"
Also, he uses a mono-Rock Sun hybrid to cover up his Water weakness and hit Grass and Steel types harder with Fire.

Ok so after you beat the first Gym you meet a fellow searching for some Bug Pokemon, he introduces himself and initiates battle. After battle he tells you his profession and whatnot and goes on his merry way.
>1st battle team
-Pineco, Sturdy Lv. 17 (Bug Bite, Spikes, Protect, Self-Destruct)
-Joltik, Compound Eyes Lv. 17 (Electroweb, Fury Cutter, Thunder Wave, Rain Dance)
-Scyther, Technician Lv. 20 (Silver Wind, Quick Attack, Rain Dance, Pursuit)

The second encounter is in a city area, he just finished defeating a Gym Leader and stated you gave him the motivation to beat all the Gym Leaders after that first battle. His strategy of using Rain Dance is more evident here.

-Forretress, Sturdy, Light Clay Lv. 34 (Stealth Rock, Flash Cannon, Reflect, Light Screen)
-Araquanid, Water Bubble, Damp Rock Lv. 34 (Rain Dance, Water Pulse, Leech Life, Aurora Beam)

The 4th encounter is the last one, the player's other rivals meet up in front of the League, after Victory Road, that includes the entomologist fellow. Cue the other rivals asking who he is and whatnot and afterwards the battle begins!
