The point was that this was a pride-fight set up purely to cause pain, because the clones are just as alive and free as the originals and therefore have nothing to prove- the Japanese script is more direct about that, even though 4Kids meant the same and just torpedoed the delivery.
It's a very, very particular point to make but it's not an incorrect one.
