In all seriousness, the reasons Gen 1 gets so much attention are simple.
It's the first game in a series with an inconsistent cast, making it the easiest game to get in touch with.
Second, GF doesn't know how to cater to adults, so they just try to put in things that they think adults will recognize, and hope that that is enough to placate them.
If you think Pokemon games are shit, just don't buy them.
