People will discuss this game because there is literally nothing else interesting going on in this franchise. Most of the people don't give a flying fuck about smartphone games like Quest and Shuffle and there are no new spin-offs in progress we know of.

By the way, games made for children can still be entertaining for adults if they are well made (like those first Harry Potter games for PC and PS). Pokemon franchise should not be focusing on marketing kindergarten level shit after 20 years of existing.

For one thing, how is saying that a game wasn't made with a certain group in mind an attack on said group? It's like action-loving John Cena fans feeling attacked that he's in a comedy. For another thing, you're not putting it into perspective. Why would a Dr. Seuss book have to answer to actual criticisms from fans of YA books? It's just so clear to me I don't see how people can be confused about it. That's not to say older folks can't enjoy the books of Dr. Seuss/LGPE since they can still be charming, but the expectations are certainly established based on audience and execution style.

Why? Do you think they should be advertising to people who already buy the series as opposed to people who don't know about the series because they haven't even been alive for the majority of the series history?

If Gamefreak/Nintendo/ThePokemonCompany listened to your sage advice they would have been shit stomped by the first alternative that did target young children as a whole new audience/generation gets scooped up while the aging audience gradually leaves Pokemon.

Franchise fatigue. People will get bored faster if there is nothing interesting on the market. Creating games for younger audience, in order to attract fresh blood to the IP, is important but losing your old playerbase in exchange is a mistake no one should make.
Pokemon franchise is lucky since it has 2 decades worth of addicting games and people sometimes don't want to switch to newer shit.
I will also give some credit to GameFreak since its advertising has been pretty good in recent years and it actively tries to help newcomers.

How are main Pokemon games not suitable for young children again? XY and SM are perfectly viable titles for both old fans and new fans.
