That was too complex for kids to handle. Had to dumb it down to moe blobs and elemental cutsy animals because any form of amibiguity makes it less likely to sell. Also takes less effort and because of the simplified moe shits they are able to pump out merch for all kids and degenerates to buy.

Its because they basically got identified as the animals of another world instead of monsters. Anime references to real life animals existed as well as in some old dex entries but they've phased them out completely because a lot are based on animals thus why they are now mostly animalistic and cute.
