How does a trainer share affection with, say, a Magneton? Do they have a form of machine intelligence, and are able to understand and process commands but unable to process and understand emotions? Would the affection be entirely one sided, with the Magneton only awaiting new orders? Do they have an insectoid form of intelligence and see their trainer as one they should serve but only in ways that specifically ensure their health and prosperity?
How would a trainer display their affections? Does a Magneton respond to being petted? Would they enjoy cuddling? Would they enjoy resting on a bed or a couch and watching television?
