Most starters aren’t even that strong. Blastoise is straight up bad compared to Slowbro, Starmie and Vaporeon.

Exactly what I mean you can earn better ones without getting a slightly worse one handed to you for free. When compared to the whole dex they are usual a lot stronger than the average mon and getting that for free at the start isnt right. Imagine if at the start of Zelda you get the master sword straight away. gotta work your way from the rattatas and mankeys my dude

Good team lad, although I wouldn't choose Tauros myself. I don't see the point in Normal Pokemon, apart from maybe Snorlax because he's got pretty good stats. Good team though, I'm a big fan of all the others. Golem and Alakazam are two of my favourite Gen 1 Pokemon, Lapras is really good, Raichu is my go-to electric type in Gen 1, and Charmander is my default starter, so yeah, good team.

I'm currently playing ORAS and I have my same team from yellow 20 years ago, granted they're all level 100 and sit in a box until I get all the badges, transferred from one game to another.

They're good enough for most situations. Only rock and ghosts resist normal attacks, and fighting is their only weakness. They also have a large TM selection, so something like Blizzard or Earthquake might get you through a bad match-up.
Also, Body Slam stab.

Tauros is fast. I built this team for stadium, and I really feel the pain getting out sped using Lapras or Golem.

I guess I'd still go with my 7 year old self's squad but with much better move balance through TMs. I only taught those guys same-type moves and put Twinneedle, Pin Missile, and Fury Attack on my Beedrill.
