2) It arguably looked like that for hardware limits. It was already stupid in FRLG when they didn't change that, but now it is inexcusable, all the more if you know that Let's Go isn't a 1:1 remake of Yellow.

Hey, don't take the blocky appearance of our region seriously. It's there because of the hardware limitations, it's actually a wide and wonderful world. Use your imagination.

Gen 3 onwards :
Huuh. Kanto is literally a square, yep.
Game Freak's peak creativity was Gen 2. It's the gen that added the most concept. Gen 3 to 5 were simply polishing the basics until it was perfect but never added anything substantial.

Look at pic related. It's a city from Earthbound, a SNES game that got a GBA port in 2002
Game freak has NO excuse for not making the pokemon world look like something alive and not a bunch of legos

These
Gen 1 and 2 were good games.
Gen 3, 4 and 5 were mediocre to ok games but good to excellent Pokémon games.
Gen 6 and 7 were bad to mediocre games altogether, SM in particular is both a kusoge and a shitty pokémon games due to the excessive cutscenes and linearity.

Kanto in RB was limited by graphics in how it could make a bridge. FRLG repeated the mistake outside of the world map, but HGSS fixed it.

I still fucking hate this. Castelia City, from a Pokemon game that came out 8 years ago, actually looks and feels like a city.

As shit and lazy as Gens 6 and 7 were, some of the cities actually had SIZE to them. Lumiose felt like a city, but sadly still looked like utter shit.

Celadon City is not a fucking city, it's 5 buildings in a square. Kanto is shit.

The closer you get to concept art, the better you are doing as a developer. The reason they couldn't recreate it too well back then is hardware limitations. The game world as it appears in the game is an abstraction of the concept art, it's supposed to be as close as possible and as the hardware allows.
Do you think a fucking city literally has 5 houses and 8 people living in it in the Pokemon world? You absolute idiot. Concept art is the golden standard to strive for, not the fucking video game from 1989 hardware.
