It is. The only people who like the Kalos Ash are 12 year old shōnenfags that scream “muh edge” 24/7 when in fact the Pokemon anime is a slice of life anime which the sm art style fits perfectly. Not every anime has this serious over tune to it you spasmoids

More than anything else this is why I don't like SM Ash. Even when BW gave him more than lines for eyes, he still looked like the same person. He hardly looks like the character from the beginning of the whole anime anymore.

XY Ash was the art director (and some other folks) pushing the series ahead as much as they could within the confines of TPCI pretty much mandating what the anime can and can't do.

I thought it was incredibly boring and SM is a better watch, but at the same time SM is like a bunch of dessert. Nice once in a while, but making it your main course is not sustainable in the long-term.
