Probably. But I am also conflicted on that, since even with all the bad, there were a few features that are unquestionably good that we might not have if Game Freak didn't shit the bed on it. It's still possible to salvage the series and use what was good about Gen 6 & 7 to the betterment of the franchise as a whole.

Only time will tell if that comes to fruition, though.

Outside of the Bewear line and a few Alolan Variants, Gen 7 had so many top tier designs and was the most consistently high-quality generation in that regard.

I also felt that changes such as Island challenges gave the series a breath of fresh air.

Really, Gen 7 just needed a bit more polish here and there and it should also kept the PSS. Festival Plaza sucks balls.

Yes. They should've given us a Pokemon Z to improve Kalos and then a new gen a couple years later. SM was rushed for the anniversary and suffered badly for it.

I'm glad Gen VII happened because of the new Pokémon and some of the concepts. But the game themself needed way more polish.

The games themselves and Z Crystals were the only bad thing about it. The mons were top tier (although most being shit competitively, but really who gives a shit about competitive at this point in time) and the Pelago was great (until they patched the glitch).
