Well it is actually new and different, while the LG trailers and interviews make it seems they are making Kanto as much of a replica as they can. Not even that contrusction project advanced!

By itself? No. As part of the whole, yes.

Honestly, I dislike Sinnoh as a region. I always kind of wished they'd saved the Pokémon and used them elsewhere, but as part of this whole (where it essentially becomes Mt. Coronet and the routes to the north of it with the lake etc.) I like it a lot more.

I would love if the Gen 8 game were based on this beta, if they finally went back and did Gen 2 how they originally intended.

Is it supposed to be a large spread out town? A bunch of little towns separated by tiny routes? I don’t really get what they were going for.

I think it's more like towns are now cities, and Kanto is the biggest city. Their way of scaling up the adventure from gen 1.

At some point of developing Gold and Silver, GF was trying to shove Kanto into the game despite having very little cartridge space left. That map is a compromise, Kanto reduced down to one single city with most of its familiar features intact.

I can defend it, trying to get more content onto a cartridge so paying customers get more value for their money.

In the end they went for the sparse Kanto, which while does have its flaws is still a nice addition. What's with all the Gen 1 and 2 hate recently?

admittedly they had flaws, but so has pretty much every Pokemon game they've ever produced.
