But back at the end of May Game Freak held a conference to discuss their upcoming games where Ishihara revealed LGPE and gave the first confirmation that XY/SM were going to be the model for the 2019 game. He and Masuda have since made reconfirmations of that in various interviews to both English and Japanese outlets.
But the worse problem is that everyone happy about this has convinced themselves that they have the ability to do both, but the problem we have here is, Game Freak has 143 employees and can barely handle the output they're doing now. Adding another series into the mix means adding more staff, but Game Freak has always resisted growing, to the point where it's almost crushed the company under the weight of their own incompetence more than once.
And even if they could do both, they'll just end up competing against themselves with the two
very similar titles, rather than appealing to the market segments they set out to. It's the same reason most companies put so much distance between their product releases, especially for those in the same series, because you end up just pillaging your own sales potential with two contrasting products on the market.
