>>36117074>That was the purpose of HA in Gen V. But then they double down to make MegasWhy can't they do more than one thing to innovate the mechanics. I mean, having a problem with megas just because HAs are a thing seems stupid if you don't have a problem with HAs considering GF introduced items in Gen2. I don't think it's rational to say you can only rework the game once and it's a gimmick if you do it again.
>but the Megas are obviously picked based on fan favoritism more than anythingAudino? Banette? Manectric? Sure maybe you like them but they are hardly fan favorites. They obviously picked some for the fan appeal, but then they picked other oddball choices just because. I'd like to have seen more, and hope they revisit the concept, but even as it is, there are a good number to choose from, and so what if they are just buffings of (or at least attempts of) old mons? I mean, that's what it says on the tin. What else would it be?
>The idea behind Z move was supposedly anti-megaI don't think so. It's an alternative to mega, as they share the power bracelet thing so you can only choose one, but nothing about Z-moves otherwise has anything to do with megas.
>what it does to the meta is that it buffed an already strong Pokemon strongerYour complaint here is equally applicable to HAs as well. With HAs, now strong pokemon are able to bypass their counters like Breloom or Gliscor. All these do is add more diversity, add more options for what you can do with a pokemon, and I can't think of many pokemon that can wreck all their counters just cause they get a z move. Maybe it shifts what is a counter to it, but it'll get new counters.
I just can't see how you can have problems with Mega or Z-moves unless you're hyper-focused on a specific execution like you're butthurt your bro didn't get one or your bro got one but you don't like its design, or you're some kind of genwunner purist who decries anything that doesn't sate his nostalgia
