Honestly will you be giving this game a try?

The only thing I've really noticed a problem with is that it is a big Safari Zone.
I mean, oh well I guess. I liked the Safari Zones...

Face it fag, Kanto is currently the most outdated region and thus most deserving of a remake.

Our last real trip to Kanto was on GBA (no don't say the barren wasteland on DS counts) while we just went to Sinnoh in Platinum.

The game was casualized to such a degree you don't even have to think of ways to beat bosses since NPCs tell you exactly what types of pokemon you should use to "super-effective" your way to victory. Not only that but they won't even let you fight the boss until you've got a pokemon which counters theirs.
The rival is again, not a rival but another NPC whose purpose is to give you items and exp instead of offering you a real challenge. You know, that thing rivals are known for.
And while we're on the topic of casualization, I've read somehere that they throw every starter at you in Route 1(ONE).
The graphics are outdated and ugly, though they've been that way for the past 2 generations.

We don't know for sure. There were early images suggesting this was the case, but there were images shown later suggesting you get them the same way you did in Yellow.

My problems with these games:
- Unable to breed your Pokemon
- Trading online requires a $20 annual subscription
- Many Pokemon appear to be locked behind GO Park and cannot be obtained in-game, such as the stuff that was previously found in the Safari Zone

With that said though, I'll give these games a try. I need some games to spruce up my Switch library.

...They've literally always done this. This has been a thing since Red/Green. LGP/E not letting you enter the first gym without a water or grass type is beyond fucking retarded, yes, but Jim Gui has always been in almost every gym. (Except Celadon, I think, he was at the Game Corner.)

Can’t evolve starter Pikachu/Eevee, all post Gen I evolutions/prevos locked (Umbreon, Espeon, Scizor, Steelix, Slowking, Kingdra, Crobat, and the list goes on), none of the Gen II Pokemon which are in Kanto during GSC/HGSS, no Pokémon at all past the original 151 are even programmed in as far as we know.

Personally I don’t care about what most people are complaining about. The catching system is whatever, the gym tip is whatever, and the game looks really pretty. But locking all Gen II and beyond Pokémon, especially the evolutions of Gen I mons (like Umbreon, which I wanted to evolve my Eevee into, except you can’t even evolve your damn starter), is unforgivable to me.

Part of me wants to get it, but the other part of me knows I'll be bottle fed through the entire game like S/M. If they could implement a feature that allows you to select a difficulty to play on, and adjust the bottle feeding accordingly, I could see myself getting it.

Personally no I have 0 interest in a watered down version of Pokemon, thats just personal preference
I genuinely love the mods that make the games harder, give gym leaders 6 pokemon that make sense and have decent moves, same with rivals, things like that
I know gamefreak wont make a more difficult/thoughtful type game like that themselves so I appreciate the modders and dont want to pay for a worse version of what they already make

Newcomers and folks looking for a "casual" Pokemon game'll probably enjoy it, but what can it give me that I haven't experienced since gen 2? In comparsion to the "mainline" it's literally just Kanto on the Switch, and as a spin-off it doesn't offer a different enough experience from the main games. I mean, it doesn't even have the virtual console excuse of connecting to pokebank or w/e.

I loved Pokemon following behind me, but that and "it's pretty" aren't convincing selling points.

It's also the first time we've been to a true Kanto with a fully implemented Special/Physical split. I dont count HG/SS as a real kanto, since it's so late game you don't really get the full experience of it.

They literally gutted this thing back to the Yellow days. They literally pulled a fan favorite following Pokémon to try to sell this shit. I love that feature but fuck them for including only 151 in the dex and getting rid of abilities, held items, multiplayer online, and breeding. It’s fucking gutted

Not radically no, and to be clear I'm not gunna buy it, but it's good to be honest about why instead of making up fake reasons why. It does have a few good things about it, like being beautiful, following/riding pokemon, co-op, and the split, its just that there's so many terrible things that outweigh it, and also it's kind of expensive for a pokemon title, even a good one.

I didn't like how when XY, ORAS, and SM/USUM were revealed they looked as if they made things too easy while having overbearing cutscenes and dialogue, so I didn't buy them. When they were released, my negative predictions were accurate.

Anyone with basic foresight should know if a game will offer something they will like or dislike, especially a Pokemon game.

Nor will I understand how people can say Blue and Silver are the best rivals because they're assholes when they use the exact same shitty teams that you stomp into the ground that the new characters do. If difficulty is the best sign of a rival, then I guess Wally wins by virtue of making a competitive battling team in the ORAS postgame. Well, that wasn't me. But the reality of LGPE is that the scant few things they've added literally only appeals to lapsed and go fans, and a very narrow slice of established fans who either are partial to Go-style features or biased against a particular traditional feature, like wild battles.

For everyone else, especially core fans, these features are non-entities, nothing of value has been gained and taken in totality, rather much has been lost to accommodate them, which is the problem.

By any reasonable measurement, the outcome is the same: they've added nothing of note and removed practically everything of value.

It's literally all that matters. These games are meant to have PvE, and the only reason the National dex exists is to get pokemon for competitive anyways, regional dex is all that matters for in-game which is what this game was built for. It doesn't really have less than other games.

But to your broader point, I think Silver is really the only one of those two that you mentioned is actually an asshole. Blue is just snotty, arrogant, and competitive. In many ways, I think Gen 4's Barry is very similar, just perhaps not as mouthy and while I wish they'd do better teams, I think it's important to have rivals in these games that are actively competitive. Even a little arrogant.

It was one thing when they were removing features but adding others, this is the same thing only with parts removed.

I was perfectly okay with getting Kanto again, but it was supposed to be expanded upon with all of the content, not have more removed.
