Going by the footage we've seen, the quality of the models isn't even much higher than those found in the 3DS games. If Citra had support for hi-res texture replacements, 3DS games would legitimately look just as good.
With such a serious leap in available hardware capabilities, what is the reason for this?
Maybe the games were originally being developed for the 3DS, but pressure from Nintendo wound up moving the project to the Switch.
It makes sense given the assets we've seen, and there was even evidence of Pokemon Go being a valid origin location for Pokemon in S/M/US/UM.
That said, I wouldn't doubt other factors like Nintendo issuing a tight development deadline or Game Freak just being lazy again (see ORAS).
Either way, this is fairly disappointing.
