How do people determine which team they would have irl?
I mean the obvious answer is "pick the ones you love" but what if you're someone like me who loves all Pokemon. Share your process of making an irl team or share your own. Also AMA, the guy who loves all Pokemon.

If we want to be realistic about it, most trainers in game aren't nearly as skilled as the MC so they probably never make it too far in their journey. Therefore, a realistic team would be made of those pokemon that happen to be found near where you live, mostly

I also sometimes pick certain types that I can logically seeing myself training.

For example, I hate hot temperatures and weather so I don't really like fire type pokemon.

You could base it off your job or interests as well.

Or base it off what you would need to survive in the pokemon world. Some ideas could be: a flying pokemon, surfing pokemon etc

I would probably look for my region's Professor and get a starter, but my team would really depend on where I am... I live in a tropical country, so I'd probably have Alolan Exeggutor, a jungle reptile like Grovyle, Heracross... but assuming I'd be a trainer and travel around, those NPCs don't travel, so they have less and weaker Pokémon

History/Theology/Education focused student here, so likely one steel, one ground, and one grass type. No dark types though. I'm a richfag Manhattanite, so at least two Unovan pokemon, one of which is either quite rare or a starter. I go to college in Chicago, so at least one Ice type because it's cold as shit. Also a yellow fellow (Korean descent) so I'll be taking one Zodiac-creature thing.

So it probably pans out:
-Samurott (Rare or Starter-type Unovan line)
-Diggersby (Zodiac Animal, and fits Ground-Type)
-Vanillish (Ice-Type and another Unovan line, lives around Ridgefield, NJ and we AmeriGooks blanket the ground in Ridgefield)
-Magneton (common as shit, a steel type, exists in Unova. I'll need to hit up Jersey City irl first instead of driving through. I could claim Newark tho)
-Unfezant (common as shit flyer, third Unovan line existing in Manhattan as of B2W2)
-Lilligant (common grass type, keeps team majority Unovan, exists in Manhattan as of B2W2)

Not an OP team, biased heavily towards special attackers. Diggersby the only one who regularly functions in OU. Not everybody is fully evolved. It works, IMO.

then I think which ones would I strive to capture if I traveled as a trainer? Which ones fit my personality/style?

So, if I were some random trainer waiting along some route for the main character to battle, I'd probably have
>nidoran(male), ferroseed, purrloin, nincada, sentret, poliwag

whereas if I were an elite trainer (like an ace trainer or the champion)
>nidoking, ferrothorn, poliwrath, rapidash, eletrovire, aerodactyl
not the strongest, but strong and personalized

Rotom - Fridge mode, less for battling and more for support with food storage and electricity output
Seismitoad - Water travel, not hindered by swamps and dirty water
Espeon - I can't help but think a psychic pokemon would be great for coordination reasons
Lilligant or Leavanny - Food and harvest, have to make sure I'm not picking the wrong fruit

Swanna - Capable of flight during stormy weather
Lapras and Alolan Sandslash - Arctic travel

I live less than 10 hours from New York so I guess I can go off the Unova dex. I grew up around a lot of farmland that quickly became suburbia and currently now live in a city.

1. Watchog - could be my bodyguard, also there's construction everywhere in the city
2. Mareep - light source for late work nights and would be able to stay warm during the winter
3. Cinccino - could help me stay tidy and organized
4. Stoutland - loyal doggo
5. Lopunny - taking it's mega form into consideration, it could be my gym partner
6. Can't really think of one for the last spot.

The only interest I have trouble incorporating is my love of true crime. I'm even going to school to become a paralegal. Too bad I would never really be able to get a Yungoos/Gumshoos.

They'd probably be mostly Psychic or Fairy types since they seem the most easy to tame and friendly with humans.
My team would be:
Espeon-Gardevoir-Clefairy-Whimsicott-Ribombee-Absol.
For Absol I usually dislike dark types but due to it's history and nature I quite like it.

My starter, I used to catch frogs as a kid so I think he fits me nicely.

I would assume ground type pokemon are common to the area.

Rabbits were actually once a huge issue in my town so I could see myself catching one.

I’m studying psychology so naturally my team will mostly be Psychic types, but I’m not very fond of them so don’t really know what to pick.
The only team member I would realistically have is Meowstic because I keep a few cats irl and it’s joked to have autism.
Maybe Hypno and Musharna for hypnotheory, but again, not very fond of them.

The pokemon I love
The pokemon I would find usefull or good pets in everyday life for citizen
The pokemons I would find usefull in an adventure (one to ride, one to swin, one to fly...)
Strategical pokemon if you want to be a fighter.

I think most of people in the pokemon world have only one or two pokemons as pets or job partners, only pro trainers and adventurers have complet teams.

My adventure team would be:
-Venuaur: favorite starter
-A-Marowak: favorite pokemon
-Crobat: favorite flying type and easy to find/rise
-Lanturn: favorite water type, can swim, dive and illuminate
-Girafarig: for mounting

I choose what can be usefull, generally. My 6th is generally reserved to a pokemon I like (like, I can let the starter stay for the main run, more 4 pokemon that can help, but I'm adamant about always have a gligar/gliscor in the team).

Im originally from Texas so these are the animals I grew up with

Feraligatr because of how common alligators are closer to Louisiana
Crobat because Austin has a literal bat festival in the summer because of how many live there
Sandslash or its Alolan form as the closest you can get to an armadillo
Chatot as a substitute mocking bird which is the state bird
Sawsbuck because deer are super common where I'm from
and Beautifly because swallowtail butterflies could always be found in my garden every spring
