>>36136485Ignoring >:/, I completely agree with you. Ultra Beasts feel completely out of place in the worst way.
Mechanically, all they are are min-maxed Pokemon with a gimmick ability. A good one but they all have it. They still are essentially Pokemon in all cases with nothing else unique about them. They're touted as "dude they're great because they're not supposed to be Pokemon!" I mean yeah, you could add Micheal Jackson as a Pokemon and say he's not supposed to be a Pokemon, but he would still be completely out of place. They don't even look that alien or otherworldly, one is just a mosquito that's buff. They don't even have unique typings. They're just legendaries made under a different design philosophy more akin to how Game Freak makes monsters for their not Pokemon games. (And I remember they tend to bear a very strong resemblance to a lot of the NPCs in the game, like Lily and the jelly, Lusamine and the Pheromosa, I wonder if they were intended for something else but the idea was scrapped).
People complained about Game Freak jumping the shark in Gen 4 with a literal god Pokemon, but I think this is worst. Dude alternate dimensions lmao. This part really reminds of how much of a change in direction the series has taken. In gen 1 there was mainly just light sci fi elements, with even the paranormal stuff presented in a pseudo-scientific way, like you would see in a ghost hunter show. There was cloning tech and such, but it was still somewhat downplayed. Gen 2 introduced more mysticism, but it was kept almost exclusively to legend, and even those legends weren't overly grand, with the most remarkable thing being Ho-Oh bringing 3 Pokemon back from the dead (again, in legend). Then Gen 3 introduced awakening ancient god-like Pokemon, Gen 4 introduced literal gods, and then gen 6 and 7 brought alternate realities, wormholes.
I wish Pokemon would be a lot more down to earth in its stories and lore and not have to resort to this.
