The whole basis for the theory is that Butterfree doesn't look like a natural progression from Caterpie because of certain design features. But it does look like a natural progression when you look at the actual animal. There's no evidence for the theory besides a couple design features. But hey, Voltorb and Magnemite are both round, so maybe they switched evolutions
