It'll probably continue the inevintable path towards the average JRPG (i.e. stronger focus on characters and story, long cutscenes). That's not necessarily a bad thing, unless you're looking for a game like gen 4 or earlier and won't accept anything else. It just means you have to let the main story sit for a while and go engage with the gameplay yourself. The game won't push your nose into it.
The difficulty increase in USUM shows that gamefreak is at least somewhat aware of the issue, and we can hope that they don't make it baby-tier in difficulty.
The real fear is Go integration. Anything that Go touches turns to shit, inevintably, because it's pandering to the worst audience. It's like a shit midas. If there's no Go integration, there's a chance it may be good.
