>>36164393It's not trash, it just couldn't keep up with the power creep. It's still one of the few pokemon that has been OU for 6 generations with Gengar who also went in UU in gen 7 and Tyranitar.
And frankly it did well for a pokemon that didn't receive a lot of love compared to some other gen 1 pokemon: it didn't get a mega or an alolan form, it's abilities are not that great (illuminate is useless,. Natural Cure is ok but there is better ability for an offensive pokemon, same for Analityc on a fast pokemon), it didn't get a new better type like Clefable or an item that synergise with him like evoluroc for Chansey. Also its movepool is probably the one that has the least changed since gen 1: he always had boltbeam for coverage, a strong water stab (surf,hydropump, and later scald), a strong psy stab (psychic and later psyshock) and some utility (recover, thunder wave, rapid spin), it's a good movepool but a bit basic.
